City of Tucson: The City of Tucson Office of Economic Initiatives received a Silver Award for its Small Business Navigator Program at the International Economic Development Council’s annual conference. The Small Business Navigator Program won in the Economic Equity and Inclusion category.

The Small Business Navigator program addresses the needs of overlooked small businesses, especially minority business owners as far as race and identity is concerned. The program delivers recovery support and business development services to small businesses in the city by addressing three fundamental needs: access to capital, financial health and leadership acumen. In the past year, small business navigators have provided 1,030 training hours, 500 hours of one-on-one assistance, and access to $1.1 million in capital.

Tucson: Forbes named Tucson No. 3 on a list of top 99 best cities for accountants. According to the ranking, the projected job growth for accountants statewide from 2020 to 2030 is 22%. Forbes noted that the median income for accountants in Tucson is $59,215. Salt Lake City and Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach ranked Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.

Alexis Ramanjulu: KGUN 9’s Alexis Ramanjulu, a multi-media journalist covering Cochise County, was honored as one of 17 of Cochise County’s 2023 Most Influential People. Ramanjulu joined KGUN 9 in November 2022.

Ramanjulu worked previously in public relations at the Regional Hospital in Sierra Vista. Prior to the hospital, Ramanjulu was a sports and news reporter at the Harold Review.

Arizona Innovation Challenge: The Arizona Commerce Authority announced the semifinalists selected for the 2023 Arizona Innovation Challenge.

The challenge is designed to advance innovation and technology commercialization opportunities in Arizona by helping early-stage ventures scale.

The semifinalists in Southern Arizona are: BioBolt Medical, CarbeniumTec Holdings Inc., Macula Vision Systems, Metfora, Nobel Works Corp., PathogenDx, and TheraCea Pharma LC.

Finalists will be announced Nov. 14.
