With one week remaining in the 2023 college football regular season, we are starting to see some clarity around the teams that will qualify for the College Football Playoffs.
The third edition of the CFP rankings was released last week. That included Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and Florida State in the top four, in that order. The next two out were Washington and Oregon, and all six teams won on Saturday to make life difficult for the committee.
With conference championships quickly approaching, the College Football Playoff picture will soon be decided.

College Football Playoff rankings 2023
Who are the top four CFP teams in the fourth poll of 2023?
All of the top-six teams from last week’s CFP rankings won again on Saturday, but one of those victories came at a steep cost.
No. 1 Georgia handled No. 18 Tennessee in Knoxville, No. 2 Ohio State routed Minnesota at The Horseshoe, No. 3 Michigan squeaked out a win over Maryland in College Park and No. 4 Florida State took care of business against North Alabama.
However, the Seminoles’ season was flipped upside down with starting QB Jordan Travis suffering a season-ending ankle injury in FSU’s matchup against its FCS opponent. While it still won the game, its road to the CFP just got that much more difficult over the final week of the regular season and the ACC championship.
The two teams on the outside looking in also did their job. No. 5 Washington edged No. 11 Oregon State 22-20 in a tough road win, while No. 6 Oregon dominated Arizona State.
Washington’s major road victory over another top-ranked opponent was enough to leap Florida State in the eyes of the committee, jumping into the top-four this week.
Let’s see how the CFP committee viewed another perfect week from the top six teams:
Ranking | Team | Record |
1 | Georgia | 11-0 |
2 | Ohio State | 11-0 |
