News that we missed as the GTA VI trailer debuted

The Grand Theft Auto VI trailer was supposed to drop tomorrow morning, but a leak caused Rockstar Games to launch the trailer early on Monday afternoon.

While we were distracted with that news, we missed out on some news that on any other day might be pretty interesting. For instance, Sony and Naughty Dog announced that The Last of Us Part Two remaster will get a survival mode coming in January where you make a roguelike run through a gauntlet to see if you can survive all of the beasts that the post-apocalyptic world can throw at you.

This mode, The Last of Us Part Two — Survival Mode, is part of the remaster of The Last of Us Part Two coming on January 15 for the PlayStation 5.

In this mode, Sony said you have to survive as long as you can “in each run as you choose your path through a series of randomized encounters featuring different foes and memorable locations from throughout The Last of Us Part II, all culminating in tense boss battles.”

The devs also said unique gameplay modifiers can offer new and unexpected challenges as you fight to succeed – and survive – in a host of different encounter types. Play as a variety of characters including never-before-playable characters like Dina, Jesse, Lev, Tommy and more, each with unique traits to offer different playstyles, and unlock skins for them as you progress to use in the mode. It looks pretty brutal.

On top of that, Epic Games confirmed that The Weeknd is the first headliner for the new Fortnite Festival music game.

The Weeknd in Fortnite

The Weeknd is coming to Fortnite Festival.

Fortnite has confirmed The Weeknd as the first headlining act for its new Festival game more. Fortnite Festival will be the first music-focused game mode to debut with the popular battle royale game.

While Epic Games makes Fortnite, Harmonix — the studio that made Rock Band — is going to make Fortnite Festival. Epic Games acquired Harmonix back in 2021 to make Fortnite experiences. Why am I posting this at 10:45 pm at night? Well, I was distracted by the GTA VI news as well.

The father of video games

Nolan Bushnell has joined the board of Gravity Jack.

Meanwhile, Nolan Bushnell, Atari’s cofounder and the father of video games, joined Gravity Jack’s board of directors. Gravity Jack, based in Spokane, Washington, is focused on augmented reality and computer vision technology.

Gravity Jack said it has six foundational patents for AR technology. With a rich history of crafting custom mixed reality experiences for Fortune 500 clients, the company is on a mission to seamlessly integrate technology into the human experience. Recently launching a StartEngine campaign, the company aims to fund its new internal gaming division by offering public shares in the company and unveil a flagship mobile augmented reality game entitled WarTribe of Binyamin.

This groundbreaking game fuses AR and AI to create an experience poised to redefine the gaming industry on the heels of Apple’s announcement of the Vision Pro, the company said.
