Here is the 2023 All-Greater Rochester Boys Lacrosse Team as determined by a vote of Section V coaches with input from the Democrat and Chronicle and Messenger Post sports writers.
Player of the Year
Thomas Gravino
Year: Senior
Parents: Susan and Todd Gravino
Position: Midfield
Key accomplishment: 104 (73 goals, 31 assists) points this season
Future plans: Attend the University of Maryland.
Why he’s Player of the Year: Midfielders in lacrosse often are the jack of all trades. And whether they’re keeping the ball hot on offense or getting back on defense, the value of a middie who does it all can’t be overstated.
That midfielder in 2023 was Victor senior Thomas Gravino.
No doubt, the Blue Devils had plenty of talent up and down the field. But standing out among all that star power was Gravino, whose quickness, smarts and skill made him the most dangerous player on the field. And it was his leadership that helped guide the Blue Devils to the Class B state championship game.
The season didn’t end with a state title for Victor, but it did win its first Section V title since 2019 and fifth overall in eight seasons. And Gravino was a big reason why.
